John P. Barrientos is a U.S. Naval Officer, graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and also holds a Master's degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University. Throughout his career, he has served in a number of US ships as a head of different departments, before serving as an Executive Officer of (USS OMAHA), and Commanding Officer of (USS JACKSON). He served ashore as Directed Energy Branch Head, Joint Functional Component Command for space, and USSTRATCOM at the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center in Colorado Springs. He completed a staff College curriculum at the Uruguayan Naval War College in Montevideo. Most recently, he was the CNO's fellow to the council on Foreign Relations in New York.
